Catherine Poulain

Catherine Poulain, qui signe ses œuvres KTY, est une artiste française. Artiste peintre contemporaine, elle est aussi performeuse et écrivain. Son travail a été présenté internationalement et relayé dans des médias. Sa formation initiale en architecture et scénographie nourrit discrètement une pratique à la fois engagée et pluridisciplinaire.

Démarche artistique

Catherine Poulain travaille sur la tension entre le hasard et la maîtrise. Sa démarche, ancrée dans une longue recherche picturale, explore la mémoire des formes à travers l’encre, l’acrylique, l’aérosol et l’huile – sur toile, papier ou murs.

Son geste pictural contemporain fait émerger des formes stylisées, parfois fantomatiques, comme surgies des profondeurs de la pensée. Elle utilise la peinture comme un outil de révélation, créant des strates texturées où l’encre dialogue avec lumière.

Son travail est une traversée intérieure — un mouvement de l’âme vers l’essentiel. La mémoire, le corps et la nature s’y entrelacent, portés par un lyrisme d’espoir.

La couleur, de plus en plus libre et diverse, devient chez elle un langage à part entière.

Parcours & engagements

En 2021, le critique et historien d’art contemporain Paul Ardenne commente les performances du collectif Now Artists Outsiders créées en duo dans l’espace public et en galeries à Paris et Berlin.

En 2010, le critique d’art Mantionne d’Aragon signe une analyse approfondie de ses peintures.

En 2004, Catherine Poulain initie le mouvement d’artistes Transversales K afin d’organiser des actions artistiques solidaires et évènements culturels internationaux de façon transversale à Paris.

Catherine Poulain

Catherine Poulain, who signs her works KTY, is a French artist. A contemporary painter, she is also a performer and writer. Her work has been presented internationally and covered by various media. Her initial training in architecture and scenography quietly informs a practice that is both committed and multidisciplinary.

Artistic practice statement

Catherine Poulain works on the tension between chance and mastery. Her practice, grounded in a deep pictorial research, explores the memory of forms through ink, acrylic, aerosol and oil – on canvas, paper or walls.

Her contemporary pictorial gesture brings forth stylized forms, at times ghostly, as if rising from the depths of thought. She uses painting as a tool of revelation, textured creating layers where ink enters into dialogue with light.

Her work is an inner journey — a movement of the soul toward the essential. Memory, body and nature intertwine within it, carried by a lyricism of hope.

Color, increasingly free and diverse, becomes in her hands a language in its own right.

Career & Commitments

In 2021, contemporary art critic and historian Paul Ardenne commented on the performances of the NAO collective — created as a duo in public spaces, galleries in Paris and Berlin.

In 2010, art critic Mantionne d’Aragon wrote an in-depth analysis of her paintings.

In 2004, Catherine Poulain initiated the Transversales K artists’ movement in order to organize solidarity-based artistic actions and international cultural events in a cross-disciplinary manner in Paris.
